Dr. Osman Ahmed, a visionary innovation and technology leader, recently joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as a Principal Technical Advisor. Currently, he is leading groundbreaking initiative to deploy, demonstrate, and commercialize exceptional value that IOT (Internet of Things) ecosystem-from sensing to machine learning applications-can offer for research for federal clients and across many vertical markets. Prior to his current position, he served for 28 years at Siemens where he discovered affordable IOT (Internet of Things) for applications in buildings. His discovery was widely publicized in the media including Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, MIT technology review. His discovery of IOT was selected as the “2004 Innovation of the Year” by Industrial Automation Magazine. In 2004, he received lifetime achievement award "Siemens Inventor of the Year" for his discovery. Siemens recognized him as one of the most inventive minds in the company in a published book.Recently, he led a ground-breaking innovation project on smart city applications using IOT, Big Data, and Machine Analytics (ML) - the three transformative technologies aiming to creating better living, reducing resource consumptions, sustainable environment, and efficient operation. He has applied ML in many successful projects to reduce operational cost and improve energy efficiency.Dr. Ahmed is a prolific inventor and has more than 67 inventions considering USA, granted and pending, patents, covering a wide-spectrum of domains including IOT and machine leaning. He has given keynote speeches around the world on the topics of Smart Sustainable city and infrastructure and IOT ecosystem. In 2016, he was invited by the USA Department of Energy to share his expertise and contribute on innovative building and its energy system technologies that will define “Building Industry” 100 years from now.Dr. Ahmed has published/presented more than 75+ technical papers worldwide. Dr. Ahmed is a member of board of directors of International Association of Management and Technology. He has a Ph.D. degree from University of Wisconsin, Madison and a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois.
